Mobile Diesel Service Race Meeting - Dromeside PDF Print E-mail

Bundaberg kart Club held it’s first race meeting on Sunday at Dromeside Raceway with drivers from Gympie to Rockhampton competing.

8 classes took to the track with a total of 60 drivers nominated. There has been plenty of work put in by some of the drivers over the Christmas break judging by there performances.

The first of 4 rounds was run in wet conditions with some drivers electing for full wet tyres while others decided to bank on the track drying enough for their slick tyres to be effective. The wet conditions led to plenty of drivers finding their limits and the mulch.

A standout was young James Litzow who was up against one of the state’s top drivers in Harrison Oddie from the Sunshine Coast in the Rookies class(10 yrs to 12yrs). The first race was under wet conditions and while Oddie ran wet weather tyres which gave him a distinct advantage, Litzow elected to run slicks. Nevertheless, Litzow put in a great drive to take out 2nd place.

By the time the second heat was run, the track was dry and Litzow and Oddie again were battling it out with Litzow beating Oddie across the line to take the heat win. The third heat was a carbon copy of heat 2 with the 2 drivers only separated by millimeters, but again Litzow took the win.

Going into the final it was between Litzow and Oddie for the overall win for the day. If litzow won the race he would take out the overall for the day, if Oddie won they would finish on equal points and Oddie would win it on a count back.

From the outset They were nose to tail with Oddie in front. Litzow was clearly quicker in some sections of the track but Oddie was driving a very defensive line which was baulking Litzow at crucial moments. Litzow did a great job to avoid contact with Oddies kart and in the end had to settle for second, handing the overall win to Oddie.

Another outstanding drive came from Brent Loeskow who had his first race in the senior ranks after coming up from juniors at the end of last year. He was racing the one of the most competitive classes, Sportsman Heavy and put everyone on notice that he will not be one to watch. Loeskow finished ahead of seasoned campaigners such as Dale Evans, Klinton Hancey and last years Sportsman Light Club Champion Jim Thompson.

His results of 6th, 6th, 3rd and 5th gave him an overall placing of 4th in the biggest field of the day. Clinton Marcon took the win for the class with last years Club Champion Andrew Pearson in 2nd and multiple state and national champion Kel Treseder in 3rd.

Other notable results for the day were Simon Obst who’s domination of the Sportsman Super Heavy class continued with 4 wins from 4 starts. Mason Barbera also showed he hasn’t lost any speed over the Christmas break with 4 wins from 4 starts as well in the Junior National Heavy.

Scott Hodges who recently moved up to Senior National Light from juniors kicked off the year with a comfortable win by winning 3 of the 4 races.

Greg Ewart had his first run in 18 months and after finishing in 3rd for the 1st race, went on to win the day from Darren Ey and Richard Litzow in the newly formed TAG Restricted class.

The next race meeting is on the 28th March and is the Mack Truck / Ken Landt Diesel Challenge which is the clubs biggest meeting of the year with drivers expected from all over the state.

Hi Everyone
Only 6 more sleeps to the start of Bundaberg Kart Clubs season opening event the "Mobile Diesel Service" Open race Meeting.

Thanks to all those members, parents and their kids who did a fantastic job of getting the track and pit area ready for racing next weekend. It looks terrific.

Practice starts at 12.00 P.M. on Saturday with Racing to commence at 9.00 A.M on Sunday.

President Darren Ey had a sheepish look on his face when Paul Mc Kay pulled his name out of a helmut to win the free nomination valued at $55.00 for participating in todays working bee. There was a rumour that magnetic devices were used in the draw. This was catorgorically denied by Vice Pres. Kel Treseder who said that everything was above board as he had placed all the entries in the helmut with number 1 on them and no magnets were on any of the entries. After some playful banter Darren was given around of applause from the rest of the willing workers.

One of the things to happen during the morning was to remove some of the pit bays in the middle row of the pit area so those members who don't have a permanent bay with concrete floor would be wise to bring a temporary pit shade with them. All the other bays along the back fence have been repaired and shadecloth replaced and secured. This has been brought about by some of the frames being in very poor condition. A temporary stucture has been built over part of the outgrid to house the scales and marshall so that it is better for everyone as those first few karts will be able to weighin in comfort.

Attention All Competitors for the Mobile Diesel Service Open Kart Meeting

Only 21 Pit Bays are available at Bundy this Year

It would be Advisable to bring a shade cover with you.

as it is first in best dressed

See you all next weekend
